Getty on Fire
Getting ready for a nice day out at Getty Center, I didn’t know that a crazy sand fire in Santa Clarita had taken over half of Los Angeles’s sky. It filled the air with ash and turned its ever sunny blue sky into a combination of orange, red and black. As scary as wild fires are, yesterday’s weather made for an insane photography opportunity. The Getty Center is situated on the top of a hill, overlooking the city and the 405 highway. At the top of the hill we could clearly see the ocean front, where the weather was normal…
View PostLiving in the Paradox of Time

“What then is time? If no one asks me, I know what it is. If I wish to explain it to him who asks, I do not know.” –St. Augustine Musée d’Orsay – Paris The concept of time is so fascinating because it is full of paradoxes – it heals and it kills; it flies and it stalls. At the end of the day, we seem to have no idea what time really is. When did it begin, and will it ever end? What is a world without time? Perhaps we will never answer these questions. What do we know…
View PostPortland, OR
Earlier this month I visited Portland for the first time. I wasn’t sure what to expect out of a place that prides itself in being “weird”, but it definitely exceeded whatever implicit expectations I did have. The thing that made the biggest impression on me was how amazingly friendly everyone was. On our first day, a bus driver gave us day passes for free and showed us exactly how to get to where we wanted to go, and that was just the beginning. Everyone else from hotel staff and waiters to strangers on the street, was as just warm and…
View PostSeattle – Part II
We spent two more days in Seattle, mostly on foot, exploring both touristy and local spots. Here are five things we did: 1. Walk around Pike Place Market Our hotel was only a ten minute walk to the market, so we went there every day during our visit to see something new, including the infamous gum wall. It was cool and all but I’m not sure I love it. 2. Queen Anne We were told that Kerry Park in Queen Anne has a gorgeous view of city, so we took a Lyft up to the hill and see it for…
View PostSeattle – Part I
Stepping into real adulthood, I’m realizing how precious time off is becoming, which is why I want to make the most of it whenever I do have it. My best friend and I spent a short couple of days in Seattle, but we did so many things that it felt more like a week. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been to Seattle now, but I was still able to discover a bunch of new things. We started off our trip with an obligatory visit to Pike Place Market and had a crawfish feast at Matt’s at the Market,…
View PostBrussels, Bruges – Belgium.
What happened in Brussels recently deeply upset me. As I’ve grown older, I’ve become much more empathetic and attuned to what’s happening all around the world. However, things hit me the hardest when they happen in places I’ve been. Belgium was never on the top of my to go list, but when you live in Europe as a student, every city is fair game as long as it’s cheap. So for no other particular reason than Brussels being an affordable destination during that particular weekend in October 2014, I hopped on an easyjet without having the highest expectations. With no…
